The Long and Short of It: How to Wear Over-the-Knee Boots and Booties

The leaves are falling, the weather is getting colder, and pumpkins are everywhere! It's finally time to ditch our summer sandals and trade them in for some boots. This fall in shoe trends we're embracing two extremes: over-the-knee boots and booties.
Booties have taken the shoe scene by storm over the past few years, and they aren't going away anytime soon. And over-the-knee boots are back in style again from the 60s! At the start of this season we were seeing over-the-knee boots everywhere.
With such opposite shoe styles it can be hard to figure out how to wear these boots with the same fall wardrobe. It's actually easier than it looks! Here is how we styled these boots for the season:
Same Outfit, Two Ways
Even though these boots are opposite lengths, you can style them with just slight changes to the same outfit! The easiest way to pull off this look is to pick your favorite flowy dress with some earth tone hues. Each of these looks features a bootie or over-the-knee boot in a neutral color. This allows for versatility with other outfits and accents the colors in your dress. For those warmer sunny days pair your dress with a bootie and swap them with an over-the-knee for a night out.
Booties: Roll it Up with Jeans
The best way to wear booties with jeans is either a cropped pant or to roll your jeans up (ideally you want a little ankle showing in between). That way you can show off your shoes without your pants covering them, and you don't have to worry about stepping on your jeans. This is a great transitional look into fall before bundling up for winter snow.
Booties: Pair it with Leggings
If you're someone that lives in your leggings, we understand! For a go-to look this fall, pair some booties with your standard leggings, a soft tunic and a drapey cardigan. You can either tuck your leggings into your boot or show a little ankle. Simple, beautiful and comfortable.
Booties: Rock it with a Skirt
It's not quite chilly yet, and we're seeing women rock skirts in thicker fabrics like suede and corduroy. Dress for the season with a bootie rather than an open toe sandal. The warm caramel color of these booties compliments the light brown in the skirt and the colors in the blouse. For colder days, stay warm and stylish in this outfit by adding tights or leggings.
Over-the-Knee Boots: Style it with a Dress
Dressed up and ready to go. This outfit combination makes you look elegant without all of the effort. Choose a shift dress with an eye-catching print and add over-the-knee boots--done! Of course you can always accessorize with a choker necklace, clutch purse, or earrings of your choice.
Over-the-Knee Boots: Cuff it Below the Knee
It sounds contradictory to wear over-the-knee boots below your knees, but who doesn't love versatility? Style them over your knee for a more dramatic statement or flip them under your knee for another delicate detail. This style is especially great for someone who admires the bold boot look, but may prefer to dress more practically.
Over-the-Knee Boots: Pull it over Jeans
Pull them over your jeans, your leggings, or any style of pant! For a modest, everyday look pair them with a oversized sweater and denim. Unlike open toe or short ankle booties, these boots are ideal for two seasons in a row - fall and winter! Make them extra cozy in cold weather with knee socks or leg warmers.
We are boot lovers through and through. Booties and over-the-knee boots have both made their way into our hearts, and on our shelves. Come by the store to try on these new styles - with a little styling help too - or find these gems online!
